Cub Scout Pack 12, chartered by The St. Matthew’s Fathers’ Club, is the oldest Pack still in existence in the newly formed Mattameechen District of the Central New Jersey Council; our group of approximately Sixty 1st thru 5th grade boys has been serving the community since 1942. (Over 69 years.) Cub Scout Pack 12 has been very active over the past year. Not only have the Scouts participated in various community service projects, but also have had many fun outings as well! The 2010 - 2011 Scouting season began in August with a “Summer Fun Gamin Ride” in the parking lot at St. Matthew's. In October we attened our Fall Family Campout at Winnebago Scout Reservation and the Webelos II joined Boy Scout Troop 12 at the Mattameechen District's Fall Camporee. In November the Pack held it's Basket Bingo Fundraiser event. Then our Scouts collected numerous bags of non-perishable food for a local food pantry during the Thanksgiving season. In December the Scouts enjoyed a "Night at the Movies". The Pack also adopted a family in need for Christmas & each Den bought gifts for all members of the family! After ringing in the New Year, the month of January had all our Scouts attending the adult-run Pinewood Derby Workshop, where pinewood cars are diligently cut and assembled with many car building tips given to the boys. (These cars were then raced at the annual Pinewood Derby held in February.) Then our Webelos 2 Scouts along with some of the Webelos 1 Scouts Joined Boy Scout Troop 12 at the Mattameechen District Klondike Derby. Religious awards were distributed after the February 7th 9 am “Scout Mass”, and our Webelos II Scouts bid us a found farewell from the Pack and we wish them much luck in Boy Scouting at the Blue & Gold Banquet at the Pines Manor held at the end of February. In March our Scouts attended the Mattameechen District Cub Scout Olympics and Pinewood Derby at the Woodrow Wilson Middle School here in Edison. It is a fun day of different events and those boys who won in our Packs Pinewood Derby can again race their cars at the District Derby! In May we went camping at Cheesequake State Park. We then marched in Edison’s Memorial Day Parade. (And again we won the trophy for what we've always known "Best Cub Scouts"!!!) We finished off our Scouting year in June with a Bonfire and a Bridging Ceremony for the boys as they move up to their next Rank in Scouting! We look forward to another great scouting season for 2011 - 2012! Please Visit Cub Scout Pack 12's founding organization Boy Scout Troop 12 by clicking HERE to go to their website! |
